Param Sundari Movie Review (2025): North Meets South in a Culture Clash Romance

Param Sundari movie review 2025: Bollywood’s obsession with love stories set against cultural backdrops continues with Param Sundari (2025), directed by Tushar Jalota. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, the film explores the classic “North meets South” romance formula. While the premise offers opportunities for humor and heartfelt moments, the execution feels predictable and somewhat over-stuffed with stereotypes.

But is Param Sundari worth your time? Let’s dive into a detailed Param Sundari movie review to see how it fares.

Plot Overview Param Sundari movie review

Wannabe entrepreneur Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a Delhi boy with dreams bigger than his abilities, gets persuaded by an inventor to invest in a quirky dating app. The app surprisingly finds him a “100% match” – a woman named Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) who lives in Kerala.

With his best friend Juggy (Manjot Singh) tagging along, Param travels to Alleppey (Alappuzha) to meet Sundari. What follows is a clash of cultures – coconut trees, backwaters, elephant rides, Ayurveda, Kalaripayattu, Kathakali, and even the stereotypical “Malayali nurse” – all showcased within the first hour.

Sundari runs a homestay and isn’t too welcoming at first, though her younger sister Ammu (Inayat Verma) quickly warms up to Param. Sundari’s uncle Bhargavan (Renji Panicker) is outright hostile. Just as love starts blooming between Param and Sundari, another suitor Venu (Siddhartha Shankar) enters the picture, complicating matters.

Performances Janhvi Kapoor Param Sundari

  • Sidharth Malhotra (Param): Dead-eyed, constantly smiling, but ultimately uninspiring. He goes through the motions without adding depth to his character.
  • Janhvi Kapoor (Sundari): Overly styled and overly sultry, Janhvi struggles to bring authenticity. Despite delivering a few emotional moments, her character feels more cosmetic than real.
  • Supporting Cast: Manjot Singh adds humor as Juggy, while Renji Panicker brings some gravitas as Sundari’s uncle. Child actor Inayat Verma is charming as Ammu.

Direction & Writing

Director Tushar Jalota tries to strike a balance between romance and comedy but falls into the trap of clichés. Writers Gaurav Mishra and Aarsh Vora ensure cultural representation but rely too heavily on touristy elements like Kathakali, Ayurveda, and snake boat racing.

While it is commendable that the movie avoids the usual Bollywood mistake of confusing Malayalam with Tamil, the “Visit Kerala brochure” approach feels exaggerated and tiring.

Music

The music by Sachin–Jigar is soulful and probably the best part of Param Sundari. Songs like the title track and romantic ballads offer some relief from the predictable screenplay. However, the soundtrack seems more like the inspiration for the film rather than an enhancement to the story.

Technical Aspects

  • Cinematography: The backwaters and lush landscapes of Kerala are beautifully captured.
  • Editing: At 136 minutes, the film feels stretched and could have benefited from sharper editing.
  • Production Design: Authentic Kerala aesthetics are recreated with some finesse, though often they feel like checkboxes.

Positives

✔️ Picturesque Kerala locations
✔️ Soulful music by Sachin–Jigar
✔️ Some light-hearted humor from Juggy

Negatives Param Sundari movie review

❌ Overuse of stereotypes
❌ Predictable plotline
❌ Weak lead performances
❌ Dragged runtime (136 minutes feels long)

Verdict Param Sundari film rating

Param Sundari is neither entirely offensive nor entirely entertaining. It tries too hard to be a North vs. South cultural romance but ends up being a trite love story wrapped in touristy visuals.

If you’re a fan of Kerala’s scenic beauty and Bollywood’s attempt at cultural sensitivity, you may find a few enjoyable moments. But as a complete package, the movie doesn’t rise above average.

Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
